MIDDLE SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Middle Software Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Mexico. Our client is the world’s largest travel guidance platform, helping hundreds of millions each month become better travelers, from planning to booking to taking a trip. Travelers across the globe use the site and app to discover where to stay, what to do, and where to eat based on guidance from those who have been there before. With over 887 million reviews and opinions of nearly 8 million businesses, travelers turn to clients to find deals on accommodations, book experiences, and reserve tables at delicious restaurants. They discover great places nearby as a travel guide company available in 43 markets and 22 languages. As part of the team responsible for the apps, you work on products impacting millions of monthly active visitors worldwide. During the pandemic, the engineering, product, and design teams returned to first principles and redesigned the native apps from the ground up, functionally and technically. As a result, the native apps and the services that drive them utilize a modern, innovative architecture that embraces component-based server-driven UI. The Native Product Engineering Team is responsible for building and maintaining features in the client’s iOS and Android apps that delight millions of travelers worldwide. This team is looking for a backend engineer with experience designing, building, and maintaining microservices, preferably at scale. The ideal candidate would bring excellent communication skills, technical acumen, and a product mindset.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in Computer Science.
  • Experience developing scalable, performant, fault-tolerant, reliable, and secure microservices.
  • Knowledge of Java or familiarity with a JVM-based language and the ability to ramp up on Java quickly.
  • Understanding API design best practices (GraphQL, REST, Swagger, etc.).
  • Passion for building scalable software and improving the user experience.
  • Product mindset.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of container services such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with public cloud providers, such as AWS or GCP.
  • A sense of ownership, urgency, and pride in your work.

Will be a plus:

  • Experience supporting domain iOS and/or Android apps.
  • Experience with server-driven UIs.
  • Working knowledge of AWS.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, scalable features to millions of travelers across many countries and languages.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and other engineers to iterate on new features.
  • Practice, uphold, and promote high quality and reliability standards, respect clean code principles, and implement unit and integration tests.
  • Develop services that drive the  client’s iOS and Android apps across their business lines (hotels, experiences, restaurants, etc.)
  • Take responsibility for the quality and operational stability of your code.
  • Provide feedback on technical designs and ensure the client’s services' scalability, maintainability, and robustness.
