Social Responsibility Report 2019
At Svitla Systems, our commitment to stability is foundational, spanning from the consistent high-quality services we deliver to our clients and partners, to our steadfast support of various charitable initiatives.
Despite having our headquarters in the US and multiple offices globally, we remain deeply connected to our Ukrainian origins. This bond drives us to actively participate in outstanding Ukrainian charity projects across IT, education, and healthcare sectors.
We invite you to review our 2019 CSR report. Here you'll discover how Svitla’s CEO, Nataliya Anon, contributed to the school where she spent ten years, the type of rehabilitation support provided to Ukrainian soldiers, our participation in the Join IT program, our team’s experience running the Kyiv marathon, and much more.
RENOVATION AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR SCHOOL #7 IN BORYSLAV
Few people are aware that Svitla Systems’ CEO and Founder Nataliya Anon comes from a small city in western Ukraine – Boryslav. Nataliya attended for 10 years Boryslav school #7; the school provided her with the first-rate education, which prepared her well for later on studying at the University of Kansas and Stanford. Nataliya was happy to give back to her school by sending financial assistance to restore the old school building and its grounds.
For two years in a row, Nataliya has been supporting School #7’s renovation projects. The first one coincided with the 45th anniversary of the school and addressed restoration of the entry grounds and children’s bathrooms. The second one focused on the cafeteria, its interior and new windows.
Sponsors, local authorities, parents, and children (who collected various recyclables to add to the initiative) together paid up for the cost of restoration. For each donation, children promised to plant a tree as a thank you for supporters’ help and in order to redeem the harm done to Carpathian forests by illegal deforestation. As a result, 2500 new fir trees were planted, each dedicated to a particular person or organization. One of them has been dedicated to Nataliya Anon.
UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
The partnership between Svitla Systems and Ukrainian Catholic University (UKU) began last year with a one-year scholarship provided to the student who needed it most, according to the university students’ committee. Since then Natalia Anon, CEO and President of Svitla Systems, agreed to support one student each year.
In 2019 the university’s committee gave the scholarship to another student of UKU,18-old Kirusenko Yuliya. She is originally from the smaller city of Bohuslav and moved to Lviv to study Theology, which was, as she herself says a life-pronounced choice. Her family had been supporting her education, but found it a struggle, especially with her father being a soldier in ATO.
Svitla has gladly stepped up to support Yuliya and her desire to learn, providing an opportunity for her to focus on self-development and all the pleasures of young students’ life.
JOIN IT
It is a pleasure for Svitla Systems to support #Join_IT - Ukrainian vocational project organized by IТ Ukraine Association to engage the younger generation to IT and develop a new cohort of highly skilled IT professionals.
Within the project, Svitla's developers Alexey Samara and Volodymyr Myrza met with kids in Odesa and Zaporizhia, shared their experience, inspired and encouraged the youth to look up to software development as a future career.
We thank our partners ITVDN for free certificates to their online-courses that were raffled among kids. Surely, this initiative will support their will to gain new knowledge and skills.
It is undoubtedly worth focusing on creating a positive impact on society and taking part in such social enterprises. So, join us!
WIZZ AIR KYIV CITY MARATHON
For many people, the desire to run a marathon is a mystery. But not for Svitla Team, who has successfully finished various distances at Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon. We have asked our personnel to tell us what motivated them in their journeys.
- Oleksandra Mykulska, 4.2 km: “To become a part of something great and to be a role model for others and finally - for myself. To recall the feeling of testing your body and spirit.”
- Tatiana Batsalay, 4.2 km: “Neither will do for photos on Instagram 😂 I like the great atmosphere of marathon and now I’ve gained a desire for sport."
- Anton Kliachyn, 4.2 km: “I was too lazy to walk, so I ran.”
- Marya Romanova, 21 km: “Running is a special way of meditation and self-discipline. I have long wanted to enter the marathon challenge and now the first step has been taken."
- Olexander Dmytrenko, 21 km: “I wanted to break the last record.”
- Oleksandr Moskovka, 21 km: “Running is a life 😊”
- Alex Golub, 10 km: “I decided to run because the marathon is the biggest event in long-distance running, and it is a sport for individualists. For me, it’s a way to test your tenacity in which the result depends just on you and cannot be destroyed by the idlers of your team!”
- Sasha Kryvobochek, 10 km: “Only I have no pathos ☺️ I run because I often walk around Kyiv at night.”
Was it easy? Honestly, no. But it is totally worth doing!
BEQA TODAY
BeQA Today is a project that enables people with physical disabilities (who have severe forms of illness or multiple injuries) to receive free education and basic training in the field of software testing. Additionally, the program helps them obtain internships in Ukrainian IT companies or freelance.
Svitla Systems has been supporting this project for a few years now.
Project objectives include:
- Change life (giving knowledge of a new specialty and the ability to change lives)
- Motivation (give a goal for self-development in IT).
- Create a precedent (for IT companies that still do not have personnel with physical disabilities).
- Become an example (we want our students to become examples and share knowledge).
SMART FUTURE
Charitable Foundation School “Smart Future” started in 2015 by using its own resources to train about 200 ATO veterans for a new occupation. All of them completed programming and software testing courses and obtained certificates confirming a specialization of a software developer or software tester. Some of them have already obtained permanent positions in the field of IT.
Svitla Systems joined the program in 2016, when Smart Future decided to create and implement a quality IT training program to provide technical education to socially disadvantaged children (orphans, disabled children, children from multi-child families with 5 children or more, and children of ATO soldiers killed while serving or with injury-related disabilities).
NODUS
Svitla Systems is a regular supporter of the charity project initiated by the Neurological and Neurosurgical Rehabilitation Research Centre, “NODUS”, which was specifically established for wounded Ukrainian soldiers.
Ukraine has been defending against Russian hostility at its borders since 2014. Many of the wounded Ukrainian soldiers have become disabled and have poor prospects for the future. In August 2014, the Neurological and Neurosurgical Rehabilitation Research Centre, "NODUS", launched its non-profit Charity Project for wounded Ukrainian soldiers with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and spinal cord traumas suffered during the war.
Within the framework of the Charity Project, medical care is provided to both servicemen and soldier-volunteers and in both in outpatient and clinic-based programs. As of June 2017, 149 Ukrainian soldiers have gone through individual rehabilitation programs. At the present time, 400 wounded soldiers are on the waiting list to be admitted to the clinic, which means that NODUS services, the Charity Project, are very much needed.
Highly-specialized tailored neurorehabilitation is designed to restore damaged and lost functions. Rehabilitation for each patient is protracted, lasting a minimum of three to six months on average, and may run up to 12 months or longer.
Svitla Systems is proud to be a part of this program and support wounded Ukrainian soldiers on their way to recovery.
