Amazon Web Services: cloud solution for the future innovations

Data center vs cloud platform
Nowadays innovations are being introduced faster than ever. They multiply, grow to a large-scale format almost instantly, this brings along several problems, dealing with enlarging data-centers as fast as the projects grow. But even if one chooses increasing own data-center capacity, unlikely it would be cheaper than using external services, specifically designed according to modern demand.

Amazon Web Services – when, why and how
Amazon Web Services (AWS) was created in 2006 to provide cloud solutions for innovative projects, which require constant increase of data storage capacity, interconnected processes and fast response operations within the systems.
Since then AWS has launched 70 new large-scale services. There are over 1 mln customers who use this platform infrastructure all around the globe.
Being an infrastructure with as many functions and possibilities as one can only imagine, AWS helps increasing business speed, provides flexible services which can be easily adjusted to particular objectives. One does not need a huge amount of money to begin using the platform. AWS is designed to be user-friendly and cost-effective. This means any business - tiny or major - gets an opportunity to begin tuning and building up own cloud solution with no big spending. According to the AWS payment system, a customer must pay only for the services being used. Thus it’s possible to optimize costing and save any budget according to the priorities. And when there’s a need in increasing capacity or providing broader opportunities for existing business targets, a customer can adjust AWS solution fast enough, adding new services, computing power or database storage. A customer can reduce excessive power and services in a cloud as easily.
AWS platform – what’s that and how it operates?
Amazon Web Services is a cloud platform infrastructure, which provides customers with data storage capacity, content delivery services, computer power and other solutions for innovative projects.
A cloud platform infrastructure means AWS operates on constructor functions. A customer can assemble personal external system according to own preferences and business demands.
The AWS computing infrastructures are located in 16 geographic regions all around the globe excluding Africa. There are so called availability zones in every region, which are independent of the failures in other availability zones. This means every region offers low-latency connection between different availability zones (AZ).
The data centers of AWS use specifically designed servers and storage systems, optimized for particular capacity and workload. AWS also assembles chips for its particular workloads.
All the hereinabove mentioned means the AWS platform infrastructure aims at offering secure, fast, flexible services with higher availability, productivity along with cost-efficiency.
AWS services – the core solutions
There are up to 70 new AWS solutions and services, aimed at providing a customer with database storages, content delivery solutions, load balancers and other instruments for web applications and business demands. But it’s quite easy to name several top AWS services, popular among users from all over the globe. These services create the core of the AWS product line.
Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). EC2 remains a core service of the AWS cloud platform. It provides a customer with an opportunity to build and host software system on the Amazon virtual servers (EC2 Instances). This cloud service provides 2 types of data storage systems and a load balancer. EC2 represents a VPS (virtual private server) within a cloud, where a storage can be resizable and almost unlimited.
Elastic Block Storage (EBS). EBS provides persistent block storage volumes, it’s used along with EC2. This service enables a customer to create storage volumes and connect them to the EC2 instances. A customer can create a file system or a database on these volumes. These volumes are located in particular availability zones, which protects information from failures in separate hardware elements.
Simple Storage Service (S3).S3 is a data storage service. It offers unlimited space for data of 1 byte to 5 terabytes of file size. A customer can manage data by creating directories and subdirectories in specific buckets, where files are stored. The buckets are located in different regions according to a customer’s choice. Its clear advantage is represented by specific durability and safety. This service is designed to scale past trillions of objects worldwide.
Relational Database Service (RDS). RDS offers separate VPS for databases. The minimum storage capacity is 5 Gb. This service also provides opportunity to flexibly manage access to the servers by using security groups.
Route 53. This basic service gives a customer an opportunity to get a website or web application up and running. In general Route 53 performs 3 main functions. It provides a customer with an opportunity to easily register a name for a website application or a website. It helps route internet traffic to the resources of a customer’s domain. Also Route 53 makes it easy to check the condition of a customer’s resources by sending automatic requests to a resource to verify its availability. This service is designed to be safe and 100% available to provide durable solution for the core customer’s tasks.
Simple Email Service (SES). SES is used for mailing purposes. Highly productive servers give opportunity to send thousands of mails daily. The daily limit of mailing is resizable and increases according to a customer’s purposes and needs.
